How Do SMA-J Connectors Meet High-frequency Testing Requirements?

In high-frequency signal transmission for electronic equipment, connector performance directly impacts signal stability and device reliability. Designed for SS402, CXN3449, and 210A cables, this SMA-J (male) connector is a test-grade RF coaxial connector. Through optimized material selection and structural design, it achieves high-precision signal transmission across the DC–18 GHz frequency range, making it suitable for applications requiring rigorous signal integrity, such as telecommunications testing and radar systems.

The connector features a standard 50-ohm impedance design and a VSWR of ≤1.25, effectively minimizing signal reflection loss. With a frequency range extending from DC to 18 GHz, it meets the demands of high-frequency applications like 5G communications and satellite navigation. The outer conductor utilizes passivated stainless steel, offering a balance of corrosion resistance and mechanical strength, while the inner conductor features a gold-plated brass structure that enhances conductivity by minimizing contact resistance (≤1 mΩ for the outer conductor; ≤5 mΩ for the inner conductor). PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) is used for the insulator, providing excellent temperature resistance and low dielectric loss; this ensures an insulation resistance of >5 MΩ and supports a dielectric withstanding voltage of ≥1000 V.

Connector performance relies on the precise matching of materials and manufacturing processes. The passivated stainless steel outer conductor withstands 48 hours of salt spray exposure without corroding, making it suitable for outdoor or high-humidity environments. The thickness of the gold plating on the inner conductor is strictly controlled to reduce contact resistance while avoiding the brittleness associated with excessive plating thickness. The PTFE insulator is formed via a molding process that ensures uniform gaps between the inner and outer conductors, thereby reducing the risk of signal leakage. Additionally, the connector is designed for a lifespan exceeding 500 mating cycles, meeting the requirements for frequent assembly and disassembly in testing scenarios.

This connector is specifically designed for test cables such as SS402, CXN3449, and 210A; users must ensure that cable specifications match the connector interface. Avoid using excessive force when mating or unmating the connector to prevent deformation of the inner conductor. Store in a dry environment to prevent moisture absorption by the PTFE insulator, which could degrade dielectric performance. Periodically check contact resistance after prolonged use; if the contact resistance exceeds 1 mΩ for the outer conductor or 5 mΩ for the inner conductor, replacing the connector is recommended to ensure signal quality. The product is packaged in cartons containing resealable bags, facilitating batch management, while batch number markings (e.g., 2022091101) allow for production traceability.

Compared to conventional connectors, this product offers enhanced performance through three technical improvements: first, the use of a low-loss PTFE insulator instead of standard plastic reduces high-frequency signal loss by 30%; second, the combination of a gold-plated inner conductor and a stainless steel outer conductor improves contact resistance stability by 50%; and third, the optimized threaded locking mechanism ensures a VSWR of ≤1.25 is maintained even under vibration. These improvements result in signal attenuation that is approximately 1.5 dB/meter lower than that of standard connectors in test-grade applications (at the 18 GHz frequency band).
