A wire harness connector is a type of terminal-also known simply as a connector-consisting of a plug and a socket. Connectors serve as connection points for wire harnesses within automotive electrical circuits.
Connectors are typically used to join wire harnesses to one another or to electrical components; they are vital for linking the various electrical and electronic devices in a vehicle. To prevent them from disconnecting while the vehicle is in motion, all connectors are equipped with a locking mechanism.
To disconnect a connector, one must first release the lock before pulling the plug and socket apart. Forcefully pulling on the wire harness without releasing the lock is prohibited, as doing so can damage the locking mechanism or the wiring itself.
